Dear Readers,
It feels strange to think that five years have passed since we first set foot in the bustling city of New York, reflecting on our journey away from our hometowns. The skyscrapers that once seemed daunting have become symbols of our progress, resilience, and the dreams we dared to pursue.
Allow us to introduce ourselves, I am Dylan, hailing from the beautiful streets of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, with a heritage as diverse as the city itself. And I am Adriana, proudly representing the warmth and resilience of El Salvador. Together, we embarked on a journey that would not only shape our careers but also our perspectives on life.
Our journey began at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in 2019, where we pursued our shared passion for architecture. NYIT provided us with the perfect platform to cultivate our creativity and enhance our skills thanks to its dynamic environment and diverse community. One of the most enriching aspects of our time at NYIT was the opportunity to collaborate with students from all corners of the world. The exchange of ideas, perspectives, and cultural nuances enriched our learning and broadened our horizons. Whether exchanging design concepts or debating architectural theories, each interaction was a testament to the power of diversity in fostering innovation.
It was not easy to transition from our respective homelands to the concrete jungle of New York. Navigating a new culture, language, and educational system tested our determination, but it also allowed us to live experiences we never would have imagined. The streets of New York became our playground for inspiration beyond our classes. Every corner, from the iconic Manhattan skyline to the famous neighborhoods of Brooklyn, was a canvas waiting to be explored. The vibrant energy of the city fueled our imagination and pushed the boundaries of our creativity.
But amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, we found moments of peace and community within the walls of NYIT. Our professors, with their unwavering support and guidance, became mentors who not only fostered our academic growth but also instilled in us a passion for lifelong learning. And our classmates, with their diverse backgrounds and shared aspirations, became lifelong friends and collaborators.
As we approach the culmination of our journey at NYIT, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunities that have shaped us into the architects and individuals we are today. The road ahead may be uncertain, but armed with the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained, we are ready to embark on the next chapter of our lives with confidence and optimism.
